Why Can't I Install Visual Studio 2015 CTP On A Production Machine? -

on visual studio 15 ctp download page, says this:

this release unsupported , not intended use on production computers, or create production code. recommend installing release in virtual machine, or on computer available reformatting.

so... why can't install on production machine? i'm not talking creating production code (obviously not that!). can't install it?

is because pre-release software tends come "it might explode pc" caveat? or there more it, new compiler unable live side-by-side old 1 vs 2013?

the "we recommended installing release in vm, or on computer available reformatting" warning falls "it might explode pc" bucket. however, said, release not have go-live license (which different).

what go-live thing?

the license terms visual studio pre-releases come in 2 buckets - go-live and, well, not go-live. terms go-live license same released product: amount of support (though not full ms 10-year support policy), , no specific restrictions on projects created prerelease build. go-live licenses used rc releases come shortly before general availability (aka rtm).

however, non go-live license (such the 1 applicable in case) has following clauses (emphasis added):

installation , use rights.

•you may install , use number of copies of software solely evaluation purposes design, develop , test programs. if use software on microsoft azure, additional charges , terms may apply.

you may not deploy or distribute program design or develop software, except may deploy programs internally solely evaluate deployment technologies contained in software.

you may not test software in live operating environment or public website unless microsoft permits under agreement.

based on these restrictions, recommendation more strong don't install these on production machine solely intended evaluation purposes.
