linux - apt-get dist-upgrade, without overwriting my self compiled vim -

i'm using ubuntu-14.04 compiled vim myself (to add support youcompleteme), , when execute apt-get dist-upgrade overwrites version of vim (and other dependent packages) , causes vim stop working.

how can upgrade everything, without ruining have compiled myself?

it's idea keep things you've compiled in /usr/local/. nothing apt installed there stuff you've put in directory safe upgrades.

the other option pin vim package upgrade not install (or dependecies). might work better if apt-get source vim, build .deb, install , pin rather overwriting /usr/bin/vim own compile.
