Would storing many images in an Android apk file be viable for a social app -

i creating social app android , planning ahead, viable way in android store potentially millions of user generated uploaded photos. have mysql database saves image path , thinking of creating folder outside of /drawable directory save physical images. thought if did android apk file balloon in size since storing images within app; there better way store many images? been searching around answers there aren't many on topic android.

what of social media apps sync data. thats need do. don't add images in application .rather external storage location/ path in phone .refer question , this question , link. , when user open's application. sync data w.r.t mysql database vs sqlite local database.
